Focus on asteroids

Several small meteorites impacted Russia causing damage this morning. Bigger asteroid will pass by Earth in its close proximity this evening. Not only Czech academic and university departments, which are occupied with observing the proximity of Earth, are studying such phenomena.

Space year 2013

Czech astronautics made big achievements linked to two important projects. Modified detectors Timepix are going to be lifted off in April on ESA Proba-V. In the early summer time, three Swarm satellites are expected to be put onto their orbits.

The new IAF vicepresident

Czech astronautics earned another extraordinary success. Director of the Czech Space Office, Jan Kolar, became a vice-president of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF). During his two-years at IAF he will focus on topics related to small countries and finance.

CSO on IAC in Naples

The 63rd International Astronautical Congress (IAC) will begin 1st October in Naples, Italy. The results of Czech space activities will be presented at the congress by the Czech Space Office that have its own exposure.

CANSAT 2012

Czech high school students joined the final part of 2nd European competition CanSat, which took place in the Andoya Rocket Range in Norway. The goal of competing teams was to develop and test their own satellite, fitting into a can of drink. The competition is co-organized by the ESA and the Czech team was provided by CSO.

Radiation research on ISS

Today at 14:16 CET Sojuz TMA-03M lifted off from the Russian cosmodrom Bajkonur to the international Space Station with the flight engineer, Andre Kuipers onboard. His and the whole crew’s main task will be to perform a set of scientific experiments including the DOSIS-3D with a Czech participation.

Try out weightlessness

Czech student Stanislav Fort will try astronauts’ feelings of weightlessness during his parabolic flight Zero-G onboard a specially designed Boeing airplane. The flight is taking place on the October 8th during the closing ceremony of the international student project “Youth Inspiration Program 2011” in Las Vegas.

Micro-accelerometers completed

Czech R&D specialists from the Aerospace Research and Test Establishment (VZLU) in Prague completed the very last piece of flight model of micro-accelerometer –special measurement device for ESA SWARM mission. Accelerometers will be moved to Germany for integration into satellites at EADS Astrium premises.
