Active galactic nuclei and Galactic black holes from XMM-Newton
During 2009 the research team of the PECS project has focused on two topics. Firstly, a detailed analysis of X-ray emission anisotropy of accretion discs was examined and applied to estimate the accuracy of the black-hole spin determination from XMM-Newton data and the planned detectors on-board IXO (paper published in the journal of Astronomy and Astrophysics). Secondly, various aspects of X-ray polarimetry were studied in connection with future missions (presented at “The Coming Age of X-ray Polarimetry“, the international meeting – published by Cambridge University Press).
A large international meeting “Probing Strong Gravity near Black Holes“ is now being organized by our team and it will take place in Prague, 15-18 February 2010. Results of the PECS project will be discussed and presented at the meeting.
