Czech Board for Space Activities (CBSA) follows on the Czech Board for Cooperation with ESA, setup by the Ministry of Education in 1997. The Board has been created in 1997 by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Space of the Czech Republic after the Agreement between the Government of the Czech Republic and the European Space Agency was signed on 7 November 1996. The Agreement put the foundation and created the framework for cooperation between both parties in the space research and development of the space technologies needed for the research.

The Board is an advisory body of the Ministry of Education. Its aim is to be helpful in supporting the space activitiy development in the Czech Republic, in creation of suitable conditions for integration of the Czech institutions and organisations into international cooperation in space research and space applications. Its members are the best Czech experts in the space research from the Academy institutes and universities together with representatives of industry and other ministeries.

The main priority is the expansion of relations with the European Space Agency aimed at step-by-step integrating of the Czech Republic into European programmes and to became a ESA member.

Another item is provision of professional background for the Czech delegation in the UN Committee for Peaceful Use of Outer Space (COPUOS) and last but not least to support bilateral cooperation in space activities with other countries.
