 PECS Project Report - 2008

In accordance with the accepted plan of solving project ESA PECS INTEGRAL the Czech participation in satellite project ESA INTEGRAL continued. The emphasis given was according to original settlements on participation in running, further development, plus data processing from satellite INTEGRAL in scientific INTEGRAL Science and Data Centre ISDC in Versoix, Switzerland. The main important task in ISDC was – except straight forward participation in running scientific activity of ISDC inclusive observational activity and services - continuation of detailed data mining and analysis of cientific data from satellite INTEGRAL with a focus on cataclysmic variables plus related objects, and also on further activities of ISCD. We have continued the efforts, mostly in international co-operation, on scientific data analysis from experiments on satellite, with focus on extragalactic objects, mostly blazars (a specific class of active galactic nuclei). Conformable with original plan we continued work on ground-based segment of robotic telescopes with numerous scientific outputs, supporting and supplementing satelite observations. In the framework of consortium ISDC we participated in efforts on converting ISDC to the multimission scientific center for cosmic astrophysics. We also took part in preparation of international networking European project AHEAD originating from ISDC plus in initial preparatory phase of this project led by ISDC. Successful attendance in the framework of solving project PECS including the operation and development of scientific center INTEGRAL ISDC led, conformable with decision of consortium ISDC, to enlargement and extending activities towards the variability unit CU7 in the framework of project ESA Gaia that resides in ISDC plus in neighbouring workplace observatory Geneva, plus related development and research. The main part of these activities later detached and continued as a new  independent PECS project Czech participation in project ESA Gaia, with PI Dr. Pavel Koubský.   Results of the project were presented on national and international scientific conferences plus published in international scientific literature.
